I think I'm becoming a WIRE BUFF

I guess I liked the idea of getting my used guitars rewired.

The Rick will be "decustomized", meaning I'll be bringing it back to factory specs with an original RIC prewired harness, soon.

Now, my red stratocaster has 3 Fender Fat 50s pickups on it, which a previous owner installed. But the pots and caps are just plain and ordinary.

The guitar is completing 25 years, so I decided to give it a little anniversary present :salud:

That's the Emerson Custom's 5-way + blender kit. The scheme is "master volume - Master tone - blender". The blender plus a master tone pot is a very cool wiring pattern, IMHO, so I chose this one over the plain "master volume - tone (neck) - tone (middle)" that is seen on most strats.

I really dig the prewired harnesses, they save you some work and are supposed to come quite well put together.

I've been wanting an Emerson wiring set for a while, and now I'll try it...

I guess my 25 year old red strat will sound killer with it.

I am liking this, feels like having an old bike in the garage and getting new parts for it.

That's how I have my Strat wired. And I like it a lot. IMO, more interesting and useful tones this way... :yesway:

Also, on my Strat I have a full sized aluminum shield shadowing the inside of the pickguard. This way I don't have to have a grounding wire to link the ground to those three pots.

I'm awful with a soldering iron myself and can't tell the difference between anything electronic to save my life. All I can do is HEAR the difference between good pots/caps/pups and bad ones.

I rely on good friends to do the job with me.

Yep....I use dan aluminum pickguard in this case, but I keep the .015" aluminum pickguard shields on my bench for the models with plastic pickguards.

I'm ok at soldering. I like to keep things neat. But I do love the smell of melting lead. It makes me hpapy, i mean haypp, ypaph, oh, never mind.
